1. Is LASIK surgery FDA approved?
LASIK surgery is FDA approved to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism and has been performed millions of times worldwide.
2. Is LASIK surgery right for me?
During your preliminary consultation (complimentary, with Dr. Warren Stout), your eyes will be examined to determine whether you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery. A complete eye exam will be performed, and Dr. Stout will discuss your goals and expectations for the surgery, as well as benefits and risks.
Certain individuals would not be good candidates for LASIK. Candidates for LASIK surgery should be 19 or over, and should not be pregnant or nursing. During your consultation, Dr. Warren Stout will work with you in getting the proper information needed if you are not selected for surgery.

3. Will I still need to wear glasses or contacts after the procedure?
LASIK is designed to decrease your dependence on glasses or contacts. Some patients may need glasses in specific circumstances, such as for reading or night driving. Laser Vision Correction does not interfere with contact lens wear; however, most patients find that it is not necessary to wear them.
4. How long will it take for my vision to recover after LASIK surgery ?
LASIK patients typically report a marked improvement immediately following the procedure. It is not uncommon for a patient to recover 90 to 99 percent of their vision within the first 24 hours following LASIK surgery, with additional improvement taking place over several weeks.
5. How good will my vision be after LASIK?
Most patients can drive themselves into our office for their one-day follow up visit without any corrective lenses. Studies have shown that 98 percent of patients who have undergone LASIK achieve at least 20/40 vision within a week. 20/40 vision is the legal standard required by the DMV in order to operate a vehicle without corrective lenses. Vision results may vary from patient to patient.
6. Is LASIK surgery painful?
LASIK is generally considered a painless procedure. Our patients have not mentioned symptoms of pain during or after the procedure.
7. When can I resume normal activities, such as driving and returning to work ?
Most patients can return to work—and even drive themselves there—the day after LASIK surgery. If your employment involves a large amount of computer work and/or reading, you may temporarily experience dry eyes. Artificial tear eye drops will alleviate this situation.
Restrictions following LASIK surgery are few but important: patients should not touch their eyes postoperatively and should not get anything dirty in their eyes (such as can occur while swimming or in a hot tub).
8. How long do the results of LASIK surgery last?
LASIK has been performed for over 15 years with very stable results. It is important to note that eyesight may still change with age: presbyopia is an aging process of the eye that decreases ability to read small print after the age of 40. LASIK surgery does not correct this condition.
